Steven Cohen is one of the most versatile teachers and performers you are likely to come across. He can surf through the world of Jazz, Classical and Rock like they are second nature. He has released 3 LP’s; Most recently the Skidmore Fountain album entitled “Break” with 7 time Grammy Award winning producer Ken Lewis (Kanye West, The Beastie Boys, Usher, Lenny Kravitz etc). Stevens varied back-round has enabled him to have students that have gone on to receive degrees in Classical and Jazz, as well as students that are regular performers in bands and solo songwriters. Steven attributes his teaching success to the fact he has studied with great teachers such as the Dale Bruning (teacher of jazz great Bill Frisell), Professor Thomas Patterson, members of Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, and Cuban guitar composer Leo Brouwer. |
“Studying music is much like fine art or any serious craft, many of the great artist come from the same few teachers because their methods are so inspirational that they are able be passed down like a gospel. The closer you are to this line of artist, the more deep and fulfilling your experience of learning is.” says Steven.
If you take a closer look at who Steven has studied with, you will soon learn that these teachers have taught some of the best Classical and Jazz musicians alive today.
Steven has a Bachelor’s degree in performance from the University of Arizona. He can be found in New York City performing at clubs such as The Knitting Factory, Arlene’s Grocery, and The Bitter End as well as teaching to students of all ages in his studio in Union Square, Manhattan and Brooklyn (D, M, N, R lines or 5th Avenue Bus).
